The Blog Report
This weeks blogs kicked off with a write up about how to see if your current computer system is going to be capable of running windows 7. The new version of Windows isn’t due for another year and a half to two years, but already many consumers who are Vista shy, are looking to it as a replacement for their aging XP systems.
Google is back at it, adding yet another service to their ever growing e-toolbox. This time they bring us a chat application called Lively. The new application seems to be aimed at competing with Second Life, allowing the user to create three dimensional avatars that can move around and explore a virtual world. It is still in beta so performance may not be it’s strongest suit until they get the bugs worked out.
If you are in the market for a nice low priced micro-PC then consider the Asus 701. LInux is the OS of choice for the majority of those purchasing these mini laptops. Weighing less then 2 lbs, they offer onboard wifi and a web cam, making it a nice fit for the user who wants to do email, chat, and web browsing.
Lastly we have 2 new tutorials for you. First we covered how to “create a class to handle website interactions, giving us a simple way to post or get information from a web server, with or without an SSL cert and even a self signed one.”
Second, and introduction to Windows PowerShell, a command-line scripting environment which uses the Microsoft .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR) and the .NET Framework.
